The Institute of agricultural microbiology of UAAS is a scientific institution, unique in Ukraine, which determines bases of state and scientific and technical policy, co-ordinates, organizes and carries out researches in industry of agricultural microbiology; promotes their results in production; co-ordinates scientific researches of many scientific institutions of our country.

The Institute of agricultural microbiology is a leader in the study of mechanisms of biological transformation of nitrogen and phosphorus, search of ways of activation of these processes, in development and introduction of microbiological facilities of increase of fertility of soil for the use of nitrogen-fixing and phosphorous mobilizing bacterial preparations and also technologies of their production and application.

In Institute are developed the biotechnological methods of making healthy of agricultural plants from viral illnesses and creation of the modern test-systems of diagnostics of viruses; biological preparations for defence of plants from diseases and wreckers.

Scientists of Institute carry out researches on the problem of immunology in the region of veterinary virology and microbiology; development and introduction of new microbiological methods and preparations is conducted for diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of tuberculosis of cattle. In Institute are conducted researches of porcine enteroviruses; also are developed new methods and ways of diagnostics and specific prophylaxis of encephalomyelitis, pneumonia, gastroenteritis and porcine pneumoenteritis.

At Institute functions the Collection of useful soil microorganisms for the increase of productivity of agricultural cultures, which got status of National property (order of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 472 - р from 19.08.2002). Also it has: collection of viruses of potato, collection of disease eradication system by biotechnological methods for the initial material of seed potato, collection of cultures of porcine enteroviruses, collection of mycobacteria cultures of tuberculosis of different prospects.

The Institute of agricultural microbiology has an experimental base – the State Enterprise «Experimental economy of IAM UAAS», which is engaged in approbation of scientific developments, and also the South experimental station (s. Gvardiyskiy, AR Crimea) which provides microbiological researches in the field experiments of soil-climatic terms of South of Ukraine.

In Institute provides the scientific work 5 doctors of sciences and 26 candidates of sciences including the scientists of the South experimental station of IAM UAAS. The Institute is a center of personnels training of higher qualification through graduate school after specialization «microbiology». The specialized advice functions from defence of candidate's dissertations.

Researches Workers of Institute create more than 10 microbial preparations for the increase of productivity of agricultural cultures, diagnostic wheys to the pathogenic viruses, sets of diagnosticumes of illnesses of pigs and vaccine against Teschen disease virus of pigs, probiotics preparations for the stock-raising. Scientific developments of Institute are inculcated in many agricultural forming of Ukraine and abroad. The novelty of scientific achievements is confirmed by patents on the inventions.

The most essential developments are exhibited on international, national and regional exhibitions and also business forums. The Institute, and also it's employees, for active work were repeatedly rewarded by diplomas and deeds of Ministry of agrarian policy of Ukraine, Ukrainian academy of agrarian sciences and Chernigov regional state administration. In 2008 Institute was the recipient of an award by Golden medal on the Anniversary ХХ International exhibition-fair of «Agro-2008» for the best products, technology, scientific development in a nomination: «For innovative developments in the branch of agrarian science».
